Marvin Carias bought his first parcel of land in New Oriente in 1990. Over the decades, they added to their holdings with parcels of land as the business became more profitable. Over the years, he has improved farming practices, replanted some of the older trees, and implemented shade management to improve the farm. Marvin hopes to continue growing and improving the quality of his coffee, and to incorporate more organic and sustainable fertilizers.

He tells us that coffee has not only helped improve the income and job opportunities for local coffee producers, but also that it has helped the community gain better roads, schools, and a health clinic as the local coffee economy grows.
